一名 31 岁母亲因疏忽照顾刚出生仅 50 天的女儿，导致婴儿从约 80 公分高的更换尿布台跌落受伤，随后被控上地庭。案件最终以罚款 RM7,000 及 120 小时社会服务告结。
根据控方陈述，被告在位于住家内，为婴儿更换纸尿片后离开至厨房准备奶瓶。期间女婴从80公分高处跌下，导致头部及下颚受伤。医院在接收治疗后向警方投报。
被告的行为抵触2001年儿童法令第31(1)(a)条文(虐待、疏忽、遗弃或抛弃儿童)。一旦罪成，被告可被罚款最高50千令吉或监禁不超过20年，或两者兼施。在该法令下，罪成者亦可被谕令守行及进行社区服务。
法官最终判决被告支付RM7,000的罚款；6 个月内完成 120 小时社会服务；以及一名担保人提供 RM2,000 保金以确保遵守裁定。法官指出，被告虽无意造成伤害，但身为母亲应保持警觉并确保孩子的安全。
在马来西亚，即使父母无意，也可能因疏忽导致儿童受伤而触犯《儿童法令》。

Children Act 2001
31. Ill-treatment, neglect, abandonment or exposure of children
(1) Any person who, being a person having the care of a child—
(a) abuses, neglects, abandons or exposes the child or acts negligently in a manner likely to cause him physical or emotional injury or causes or permits him to be so abused, neglected, abandoned or exposed; or
(b) sexually abuses the child or causes or permits him to be so abused, commits an offence and shall on conviction be liable to a fine not exceeding fifty thousand ringgit or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding twenty years or to both.
(2) The Court shall, in addition to any punishment specified in subsection (1), order the person convicted of an offence under that subsection—
(a) to execute a bond with sureties to be of good behavior for such period and on such conditions as the Court thinks fit; and
(b) to perform community service.
